Joanne Boyle is a visual artist and art educator working and living in Ireland. Boyle’s practice is studio-based and rooted in painting. Being materials led, Boyle’s paintings explore embodiment through the mimetic nature of substance, the stuff of paint. Boyle utilises hands-off techniques to play with loss of control, through procedure and chance.
Boyle has exhibited throughout Ireland, the UK and the USA in both group and solo shows. Boyle completed two years of Turps Correspondence Course, London(2021)(2022) and a year long intensive mentoring with The Canopy Program, through NYC Critclub in New York in 2025. She is a graduate of IADT Visual Arts Practice (2009). Boyle was awarded the Arts Council’s Agility Award (2022)(2021), Artists Award Scheme, Wicklow Arts Office(2021), RHA microgrant(2020) RCSI Research Residency (2017), Visual Art Workspace Award, Arts Council(2016) Awarded residency Cill Rialaig(2015) Residency at The Guesthouse Cork(2014), Studio & Mentorship award from DLR Arts Office(2009) Boyle was a founding member of Outpost Studios,2014 and is a cofounder of the London based collective Unprimed.
